Klaus Allofs presented as new VfL Wolfsburg Director of Sports

Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg today introduced Klaus Allofs as their new Director of Sports. The 55 year old Allofs joins from rivals SV Werder Bremen on a contract until 2016 ending days of speculation if Allofs join Wolfsburg after 13 years in Bremen.Klaus Allofs comes into the club after the all powerful Felix Magath was fired on October 25 following high spending Wolfsburg dropped into last position in the Bundesliga. Magath was coach-cum-manager at the club and now Allofs takes over the role of Director of Sports, while interim coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner stays for the moment with no final decision if a new coach will be brought in or the experienced Köstner plays out the season.

“This move marks the end of three important years for me. I received many offers during this time, but none of them caught my attention. Now the time has come to take on a new challenge,” explained Allofs at today’s press conference.

“I would like to thank Werder Bremen for the past 13 years,” Allofs added. “I think it is understandable that after such a long, beautiful time, it is not so easy to leave it behind. That is why I am so grateful that we were able to part on friendly terms. Personally, I am now very happy to be here.”

Klaus Allof had been Director of Sports of Werder Bremen since October 1999, had made a name for himself in German football as under him and coach Thomas Schaaf the club won the Bundesliga title and twice the DFB Pokal.

But now at Wolfsburg he has much bigger resources at his disposal and it will be interesting to see, if he can turn Wolfsburg’s fortunes around.
