La Liga 2016-17: Sergi Roberto picks up knock on Achilles tendon, might be out for a considerable amount of time
Although he has suffered an injury, he will still remain with the Spanish national squad as they prepare to face England on Tuesday.
News coming in from Spain says that Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto has picked up a knock on his Achilles tendon which might be rather severe. It looks like the Barcelona defence is falling apart with Gerrard Pique injured earlier and Samuel Umtiti also reportedly injured in France’s training session.
According to reports Roberto sustained a problem with his Achilles and was thus unable to take part in Spain’s 4-0 win against Macedonia during this round of World Cup Qualifiers. Barcelona are definitely worried because there is no clear replacement for Roberto in their ranks, with Luis Enrique not favouring Aleix Vidal.
Sergi Roberto, the young Barcelona defender made a questionable mistake against Sevilla and was directly responsible for Vitolo’s goal after failing to intercept a Samir Nasri pass and it now looks as though he has been sidelined for a considerable amount of time.
Here is his mistake for Vitolo’s goal in their La Liga game against Sevilla below.
Apart from that mistake, the Barcelona defender actually had a decent enough game with the stats favouring his performance. Here are his stats from the Sevilla game.

Spanish national team playing down the injury
Although he has suffered an injury, he will still remain with the Spanish national squad as they prepare to face England at Wembley on Tuesday. It should be a thrilling affair but the Barcelona player is clearly ruled out and Spain find themselves in quite a fix.
The Spanish national team are playing down the injury stating that it is merely a pain in his foot and hope that he will recover in time for their upcoming international fixtures.
La Roja are unbeaten and lead their Qualifiers’ Group G with 3 wins and 1 draw in their first four games with Italy on the second position.
Meanwhile, Aleix Vidal still remains excluded from the Barcelona squad despite Sergi Roberto’s injury, further increasing the speculations of a fall out with the management and tags of an outcast but on the positive side, Lionel Messi is back and training after a slight injury scare and Barcelona will look to build on their narrow victory against Sevilla.
