La Liga 2019/20 Gameweek 2: Barcelona and Atletico Madrid victorious; Real Madrid held

Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have found perfect starts to the La Liga season and though they've been narrow wins, the sides will be pleased with their starts. Elsewhere, giants have faltered as Real Madrid failed to win at home and Barcelona coming off a defeat to Athletic Bilbao dismantled Real Betis in the space of little more than 10 minutes.

Granada 0-1 Sevilla

(Joan Jordan 52')

It's not much, but the single goal and solid performance at the back was enough to put Sevilla top of the table in these early days.

Levante 2-1 Villareal

(Roger Marti [P] 68', [P] 73'; Gerard Moreno 3')

Villareal can feel hard done by, but their clumsy defending undid their good work within the space of little more than 5 minutes. Despite multiple attempts following that, they couldn't break down the home side.

Osasuna 0-0 Eibar

Neither Osasuna nor Eibar will be happy with the result, but the visitors will find it easier to digest. Osasuna will be disappointed with their inability to create opportunities in the final third.

Real Madrid 1-1 Real Valladolid

(Karim Benzema 82'; Sergio Guardiola 88')

Buoyed by their performance on the opening weekend, Real Madrid were only a few minutes from three more points but a man named Guardiola was to foil their celebrations. Different Guardiola, same effect.

Celta Vigo 1-0 Valencia

(Gabriel Fernandez 15')

Valencia should've been one of the better starters this season but with one draw and a loss to gritty Celta puts them in a difficult position.

Getafe 1-1 Athletic Bilbao

(Jaime Mata 12'; Raul Garcia 6')

Early action promised a thrilling game, but neither side could find the extra gear required to beat the other. Inaki Williams and co were so effective against Barcelona, but failed to take the game to Getafe.

Alaves 0-0 Espanyol

This game wasn't 0-0 for the lack of trying, but despite taking a lot of shots, few of them actually found the target.

RCD Mallorca 0-1 Real Sociedad

(Martin Odegaard 83')

Slowly, and quietly, Martin Odegaard is starting to show why Real Madrid were as excited about him once as they are for Takefusa Kubo now. A late winner for Sociedad puts them at 6th in the table.

Leganes 0-1 Atletico Madrid

(Vitolo 71')

Is anyone surprised by Atletico Madrid winning games 1-0? This wasn't a cakewalk by any means though, Simeone's side looks very much like they haven't found the best version of themselves yet, but Vitolo was the saviour off the bench on this occasion.

Barcelona 5-2 Real Betis

(Antoine Griezmann 41' 50', Carles Perez 56', Jordi Alba 60', Arturo Vidal 77'; Nabil Fekir 15', Lorenzo Moron 79')

The goals that were missing from the rest of La Liga were stuffed into the second half of this game. When Fekir scored early on, there was hope for Betis, but flashbacks to last week's defeat to Athletic for Barca. Antoine Griezmann had different ideas, though, and led Barcelona to victory with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez watching on.
