Barcelona to swoop for Frenkie de Jong in January
Barcelona are looking to sign Frenkie de Jong in January itself, according to Don Balon. The Catalan side have been keen on signing him for nearly a year now but Ajax have been rebuffing all inquiries for him.
The Dutch midfielder is also a target for Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham as well. Reports in The Sun claimed that United were confident of beating everyone to De Jong but the midfielder's heart is set on Barca.
"If you end up at a superior club, you will play with world class players all over the pitch. But for me, honestly, I would like to play with Messi one day," said de Jong.
Ivan Rakitic asked to wait for the new contract
Joseph Bartomeu has made it clear that Barcelona will not be offering a new contract to Ivan Rakitic this season. The Croatian was keen on signing a new deal and had rebuffed interest from PSG and Juventus.
“For this campaign, we will not be able to go through with the gesture that Rakitic is asking of us. Next season we can look at it in relation to our new revenue,” said the president.
The delay has put Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United on high alert. PSG and Juventus are still interested in signing the midfielder.
