Leicester City 1 - 2 Liverpool: 4 talking points

L
Liverpool has made it four in four in the Premier League.

Liverpool started the game in their usual attacking fashion. The first chance fell to Mohamed Salah who failed to score from a close range. But Liverpool kept the pressure going and got the reward for their efforts when Robertson found Mané who stabbed home from 10 yards out to give Liverpool the lead within the first 10 minutes of the game.

Whenever Leicester had the ball, Liverpool was quick to close them down and tried to get the ball back within five seconds. The relentless Liverpool pressure made Leicester gasping for breath.

The first chance for Leicester fell to Gray who saw his powerful low shot saved by some fantastic reactions from Alisson. It all started from a misplaced pass from Wijnaldum, but overall Liverpool looked quite comfortable on the ball and flawlessly played passes among themselves. With Vardy suspended, Leicester City's outfield ball from the midfield was virtually out of the game. Still, the Foxes took few shots on goal but nothing substantial to trouble Alisson on goal.

Leicester patience finally broke when Firmino headed home from a corner to give Liverpool a two-goal lead before the halftime. Leicester paid for their zonal parking tactics in set pieces. Liverpool was dominant in the first 45 minutes with two of the front three getting on the score sheet, and you cannot argue that they deserved to go into the break with their nose ahead.

Leicester started the second half on the front foot, but as the first half, there was nobody upfront the get that finishing touch. Gomez made a brilliant block to deny Maddison a shot from close range. They finally got their goal when Ghezzal punished a mistake by Alisson to score his first goal. With the crowd behind, the Foxes had their tails up and were repeatedly threating to score the equalizer. Leicester pressed late for the elusive goal but never managed to pose any threat till the end of the match.

Here are the four talking points from Liverpool's victory at the King Power Stadium.

#1 Sadio Mane in sublime form

Mane
Mane now scored four goals in four matches.

Jurgen Klopp will be delighted to see his primary striker in sublime form at this stage of the season. Though the front three are yet to get to the level, they had shown last season, but Mane has done his part so far this season. Firmino also had his first goal of the season.

Sadio has found the net in all the four matches of this campaign and will be looking to add more to his tally when Liverpool resumes their business after the International break which can sometimes disrupt a team's rhythm as seen in the past.

#2 Overconfidence Alisson?

His mistake allowed Ghezzal to score his first Premier League goal.

Alisson Becker has been hugely praised by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after his commanding display against Crystal Palace and Brighton. But he will be furious with the manner in which Leicester scored their goal. Alisson tried to show off some skills in his box but failed to pull it off, and he was dispossessed by Iheanacho who laid a pass to Ghezzal to pull one back from Leicester.

Klopp will be hoping that it was just a one-off incident and his talismanic Goalkeeper doesn't get too complacent which will be crucial for Liverpool in their title chances this season. However, the event surely will remind Liverpool fans of some of their previous goalkeepers.

#3 A first time for Liverpool since 1990

Klopp will be delighted with his team's performance so far.

Liverpool opened their campaign with four wins in a row which is the first time since 1990. Jurgen Klopp and his men made it a bit difficult for themselves in the second half with their misplaced passes and Leicester's pressing. However, the players will be high in confidence going into the International break and will be hoping that this run of form continues when the Premier League resumes again.

For a Liverpool fan, it's a dreamland to be in right now. They will be hoping for a league title for the first time since 1990. But for that Jurgen Klopp and his men must not get carried away with all the hypes.

#4 Vardy's absence felt

Jamie Vardy was suspended for the game.

Though Leicester looked lively in the second half and created many more chances than they did in the first, without their talisman, they seemed slightly weak in the attacking front. The Foxes are known for their long outfield ball to Vardy who runs in behind the defense to make something out of nothing, however that outfield ball was out of the play with Jamie Vardy's absence.

However, Claudio Puel must be impressed with his side's second-half performance. They were a constant threat throughout the half and caused Liverpool defense lot of troubles inducing a mistake from their Goal Keeper Alisson.
