Leicester City 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur: 5 players who impressed | Premier League 2019/20

Pure ecstasy!

It was drama at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City sent a clear message to the annual Premier League top-6 party that they want in and they aren't taking no for an answer. It was a tale of a comeback, with a healthy helping of VAR on the side, but in the end, the Foxes edged past Tottenham Hotspur for the winner.

Wilfred Ndidi's goal early on was disallowed by VAR, as Ayoze Perez was deemed offside during the build-up. The Lilywhites broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, as Son Heung-min flicked the ball to Harry Kane who expertly guided the ball past Kasper Schmeichel.

VAR struck once again in the 64th minute, as Serge Aurier's goal was disallowed for an offside infringement. A mere 5 minutes later, Leicester got on the scoresheet, as Ricardo Pereira finished off a Jamie Vardy cross.

James Maddison was the Leicester hero for the day, with 5 minutes on the clock, as he let loose a shot from 25 yards, winning all three points for the Foxes and moving them up temporarily to 2nd place in the standings with 11 points.

In this article, we highlight the players who performed admirably in the matchup.

Honourable mention: Erik Lamela

#5 Ricardo Pereira

The man who pulled Leicester City level. He was very instrumental for the Foxes both defensively and offensively, as he made a lot of forays forward, one of which resulted in the Leicester equaliser.

In the 69th minute, Jamie Vardy's cross fell to him in the box and he thumped it home for the equaliser, mere minutes after Serge Aurier's strike was disallowed for an offside infringement.

He was also the man with the most successful tackles in the game, as he won the ball back 5 times. The 25-year-old had to be on his toes all through the game, with the likes of Son Heung-Min breathing down his neck constantly.

#4 Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans was quite impressive today, and although he didn't get on the scoresheet, he was involved in a lot of attacking manoeuvres, as he tried to give the Foxes the upper hand in this one.

He marshalled the three-pronged midfield alongside James Maddison & Wilfried Ndidi, and he was truly a handful for the likes of Harry Winks & Tanguy Ndombele, as they seemingly couldn't find answers to his marauding runs and incisive passes.

#3 Son Heung-min

The star of the show last time out as Spurs eviscerated Crystal Palace, Son Heung-min could only settle for an assist this time around. He started up front alongside the irrepressible Harry Kane, and as always, he was bobbing and weaving his way in and out of the Leicester City box.

He started troubling the Leicester rearguard as early as the 3rd minute of the game, as he placed his shot just wide of goal. In the 29th minute, he made his most telling contribution, as his clever backheel found Kane for the game's opener.

#2 Harry Kane

Harry Kane scored one of the most brilliant goals you'll ever see. Despite losing his footing, he still managed to expertly put the ball beyond the reach of Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel while tumbling.

That was Harry Kane's 4th goal of the season, and he was a handful for Caglar Soyuncu and company throughout the encounter. He had a total of 6 shots in the game, the highest return in the matchup, as he forced Schmeichel into making a couple of crucial saves time and again.

#1 James Maddison

Elation!

Cometh the hour, cometh the man! James Maddison was by far Tottenham Hotspur's tormentor in chief. He was all over the place, and he certainly impressed under the watchful eye of Three Lions boss, Gareth Southgate.

As early as the 13th minute, he cut into the Spurs box and released a shot which just missed the target. Two minutes later, he was at it again, as he dribbled past Harry Winks and Toby Alderweireld to force a save out of the Spurs keeper.

His most telling contribution was in the 85th minute, as he lets loose a stunning shot from 25 yards, beating Paulo Gazzaniga and breaking hearts all over North London. That strike won the Foxes the game and lifted them temporarily into the Premier League top 4.
