Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson will end Manchester United loanee Nick Powell’s loan spell at the Foxes next month. The 20-year-old will return to Old Trafford and fight for a place in the squad after failing to impress at Leicester.

The £4m rated midfielder was not named in the matchday squad for three consecutive matches. Ever since arriving in September, Powell has only made two appearances – both as a substitute.

Powell was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s signings in 2012, signing him from Crewe Alexandra with the notion that he would become an England senior international in the future.

Red Devils have option to recall Powell in January

The agreement to loan Powell to Leicester had an option to recall him in January if necessary and that is what the Foxes plan to do with the England U21 international.

The midfielder’s contract at United expires in the summer of 2016 and it is possible that they will loan him out again for the rest of the 2014/15 season.

Powell has never been able to stay at Old Trafford for long with the club choosing to loan him out to various other clubs to make sure he got some playing time. He had spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Wigan Athletic where he scored 12 goals in 42 games in all competitions.
