Lewandowski: "Madrid were clueless"

Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Champions League

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has rubbed salt into the wounds of Real Madrid by saying that the Spanish giants looked clueless in their Champions League semifinal mauling.

The Polish striker scored all 4 goals for Dortmund as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Real Madrid 4-1 at home in the first leg of the semifinal. The match was tied 1-1 at half time before Dortmund went all out on attack and three brilliant goals from Lewandowski sealed an emphatic win for last season’s Bundesliga champions. And the 24-year-old told Polish newspaper Fakt:

“Real Madrid were clueless when we pressed them in the second-half, at times they simply didn’t know what to do. They weren’t too chatty afterwards. They ran to the changing room pretty quickly, while we were celebrating as a team.”

Lewandowski has been linked with a move to join Bayern Munich this summer but the striker who has scored 23 goals in 27 Bundesliga appearances this season refused to comment on speculation, adding that he is currently focused on the remaining games of the Bundesliga and the Champions League. He added:

“I will not comment on pure speculation. The media writes a lot about me, but that’s just their duty. It’s hard for me to say now what will happen when the season ends.

“I focus on the nearest game and then the second match with Real. We will see next what life brings.”

Meanwhile, manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the striker will remain at the club. Speaking to the reporters on Thursday, Klopp said:

“My understanding is that Robert will still be here next year. The fact is that we are going very well this season. Why should we care about next year? Nobody knows what will happen next year. I cannot understand why an agent is speaking about a player that is under contract. I have many strange thoughts about all of this.”
