Lewandowski surprised by Dortmund's decision to block his Bayern move

Borussia Dortmund Training - UEFA Champions League Final

Robert Lewandowski is quite surprised at his club Borussia Dortmund‘s decision to block his planned move to Bayern Munich this summer.

The 24-year-old was expected to be moving to Bayern after a fine season for Dortmund last term, with many even suggesting that he had an agreement with the Westfalenstadion side for the move.

Dortmund, on their part, have ruled out letting go of the Polish international striker for the next year.

Although saddened by the developments, Lewandowski has said that he respected the decision of the club and also the fact that they had given up a lot of money for his retention.

“After the talks we held I was convinced I’d be allowed a free decision about my transfer. Sadly the situation now is I have to stay here. I am surprised about their dealings, but if BVB wants to give up on a lot of money for me, I have to respect that.”

The fact that Lewandowski has respected Dortmund’s decision and was going to put his head down and concentrate on his football has brought a lot of cheer to the club’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke. On his part, he said that he had never doubted the player’s character.

This means that Lewandowski will have to wait for at least a year – until his contract expires – before he can join Bayern.
