#3 Liverpool's struggles in front of goal continue

Liverpool have not scored a league goal in almost a month

It seems like ages ago when Liverpool comfortably dispatched Crystal Palace 7-0 away from home.

While the Reds might have been clinical at Selhurst Park, they have flattered to deceive in front of goal since then.

Liverpool followed the seventh-heaven with a dour 1-1 draw at home to West Brom. But they have incredibly not found the back of the net since that 12th-minute strike by Sadio Mane two days after Christmas.

This means that Liverpool have gone a massive seven hours without scoring a goal in the Premier League.

The last time they went his long without scoring was when they ended the 1999/2000 season under Gerrad Houlier by drawing blanks in their last five games of the campaign.

This is scarcely believable considering the quality of players attackers available at the club. However, Salah and co. are perfectly capable of turning the tide around and Klopp has to find a way to get the goals flowing again.

#2 Unflappable Nick Pope keeps Liverpool at bay once again

The last time Burnley came to Anfield, they had Nick Pope to thank for helping them secure a 1-1 draw post-lockdown in July last year.

The 28-year-old made no fewer than eight saves - with several of them being top-class - to ensure that Liverpool's 100% home record was ended last season.

Five months later, the England international was at it again and proved to be up to the task for everything the hosts threw at him.

Time and again, Pope stood tall to make saves, with the pick of the bunch coming when he showed great reflexes to claw out a Mohamed Salah shot that was creeping into the near post.

In total, he made six saves on the night and in this form, Nick Pope continues to make a strong shout to become England's number one between the sticks.

#1 Liverpool lose further ground in title defence

Liverpool are currently fourth

Liverpool sauntered their way to a maiden Premier League crown in 2020. They have, however, found the going tough in their quest to retain the title.

Having led the way coming into the Christmas break, the Reds have since imploded and currently find themselves four points off the pace on the league table.

A five-game winless run has seen Jurgen Klopp's side fall down into fourth and things could get much harder if the Manchester City win their game in hand.

At this same stage last season, Liverpool were already 13 points clear at the summit as they decimated all in their path to the title.

They are, however, facing a much tougher fight to retain the league title this time around.

With exactly half of the season left to go, there is still more than enough time for the defending champions to turn things around. However, positive results have to start being posted sooner rather than later.

A failure to do so could see Liverpool fall out of the title race before it even begins properly.
