Liverpool have reportedly made a £16.2 million bid, plus midfielder Suso, for Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno, according to the Metro.

The 21-year-old left-back has enjoyed a successful campaign for Unai Emery’s side, helping the Andalusian outfit to Europe League glory with victory over Benfica.

Moreno has also been included in Spain’s World Cup squad and will discover whether he has made the cut for Vicente Del Bosque’s later this week.

The youngster has earned a number of admiring glances from a flurry of European heavyweights with Chelsea and Real Madrid also believed to be interested in his signature.

With a £24.4 million release clause inserted into his current contract, Sevilla are keen to rebuff any advances for one of their prize assets before the tournament in Brazil as they expect Moreno’s price to rise dramatically if he plays a prominent role for the reigning World Champions.

However, Liverpool’s bid is an early test of their resolve. Although the bid is some way short of Moreno’s buy out clause in financial terms the offer of 20-year-old attacker Suso as a potential sweetener could yet interest Sevilla.

The Merseysiders’ fielded Jon Flanagan on his unnatural left flank for the majority of last season while Jose Enrique is yet to return to full fitness and Moreno could prove to be a valuable addition to shore up the defensive line.

Alberto Moreno created 19 chances for Sevilla in La Liga last season – more than any other defender at the club.
