Liverpool are set to launch an £8 million bid for Schalke teenager Max Meyer as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his squad, according to theMetro.

Rodgers has already signed Rickie Lambert from Southampton and Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen, and the Northern Irishman has a number of other targets on his list, with Meyer one of them.

The 18-year-old has shone for Schalke in recent years and is one of many talents at the club where Julian Draxler plies his trade. Liverpool scouts have been keeping their eye on the young midfielder and they have watched Meyer many times this season.

Brendan Rodgers is readying an £8 million bid for Meyer and he is set to submit that offer before this coming weekend, hoping that it speeds up the process of negotiations.

Rodgers’ bid for Meyer will include £8 million up front, but their will be substantial add-ons and bonuses if Meyer helps Liverpool claim silverware.

Chelsea were said to have held an interest in Meyer last year as a replacement for Lampard, but it cooled off and Rodgers has now taken advantage.

Liverpool finished second last season and are preparing for Champions League football for the first time in five-years. Meyer, despite his young age, comes equipped with experience in Europe’s top competition having featured in 7 of Schalke’s 8 games in the tournament last season.
