Liverpool break record for the most distance covered in a Premier League game against Arsenal

Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-3 in another classic encounter between the two

Liverpool started the season on a strong point as they won against Arsenal at their home ground where the Reds had a dismal record. Liverpool showed both of their sides; the good and the bad, as after running out with a 4-1 lead, they let the Gunners came into the game as the match finally ended 4-3 to the visitors. Coutinho scored a stunning brace with Adam Lallana and new signing, Sadio Mane scoring an exquisite goal.

This was the first time that Arsenal conceded four goals at The Emirates as the Reds ran riot, especially in the first period of the second half, where they conceded three goals in a blitz. Another record that Liverpool broke is that they covered the most distance in a game since the camera tracking the distances were discovered.

The Reds covered a staggering 117.6 km in the game which is the Premier League record since the tracking camera were introduced. On the attacking front, Liverpool looked dangerous with every attack as they had that cutting edge to their play.

This was a performance that Jurgen Klopp would have been proud of with the coach known for emphasizing the importance of pressing and the distance covered by his players. During Klopp’s Dortmund days, stories have appeared that the staff used to give the players a target of covering 120 km every game and whenever the team achieved that, the squad was given a day off in training. Liverpool were short of the target just 2.4 km of that target as they harried and hassled Arsenal and forced them to commit mistakes because of the incessant press.

This must be the heavy metal football that Jurgen Klopp talked about how he intended the reds to play under him. Arsenal were hurt badly by the much discussed Gegenpressing, and considering this is the first game of the season, Liverpool can be a surprise package for the title this time around. With no European distractions for the reds, this performance on a weekly basis will be scary for the opponents and Jurgen Klopp can replicate 2013-14's title challenge.

The left back position, however, still needs to be sorted as Alberto Moreno was the culprit behind Theo Walcott’s opener. Liverpool won’t buy a fullback this summer as reported by trusted sources with James Milner adjusting as a left back when needed.
