Liverpool complete signing of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim

Liverpool have acquired the services of Brazil striker Roberto Firmino

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino in a £29 million deal. The 23-year-old is set to complete his medical immediately after participation in the Copa America 2015 with Brazil.

The following tweet was posted from Liverpool’s official Twitter account:

His agent Roger Wittmann had already confirmed his move to the Barclays Premier League, telling German newspaper Bild earlier this month: "All I can say is that he will go to England.”

Firmino, who can play on the wings and as a forward, had an impressive campaign last season scoring seven goals and assisting ten, as the German club finished 8th in the Bundesliga. The Brazilian made his international debut for his country in November 2014 and is currently on duty with the Selecao at Copa America 2015.

He moved to Hoffenheim from Figueirense in 2011 and slowly grew to become the team’s main man. His performances were rewarded in the 2013/14 season, as he won the Bundesliga 'Breakthrough of the Season’ award, due to the 16 goals and 12 assists he provided that year.

Liverpool swooped quickly to seal his signature, amidst reports that Manchester United too were interested in signing him. This is their 5th signing of the summer, as they had already completed the transfers of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez.
