Liverpool have announced the signing of Benfica winger Lazar Markovic. The 20 year-old Serbian winger would cost around £20 million and would take Liverpool’s overall expenditure towards £60 million as they seem to rebuild the team after Luis Suarez’s transfer to Barcelona.

The Benfica striker bid adieu to the supporters of Portugal club yesterday when he posted a message on Facebook saying “"Thank you for everything and goodbye!"

Markovic played a crucial role in helping Benifica win the Portuguese title last season. He has agreed a long- term contract with Liverpool, and would join Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can as new members to the team for the new season.

In 49 appearances for Benfica during the 2013-14 campaign, the winger contributed 7 goals as Benfica sealed a domestic treble and reached the Europa League final.

"I am very happy that I have joined such a great club.

"I hope that I will fulfil the expectations of the supporters, coaches, players and all connected to the club. I have seen what the players are like, I have seen what the supporters are like, and I cannot wait to start playing here." said Markovic to Liverpoolfc.com
