Liverpool defeat Valerenga 4-1

Iago Aspas capped off his impressive performance by scoring Liverpool’s second goal of the match

Despite making nine changes to the side that started in their previous match against Olympiakos, with only Joe Allen and Iago Aspas being able to retain their spots, Brendan Rodgers’s side comfortably saw off Valerenga 4-1 in Oslo to keep their 100 percent pre-season winning record alive.

Liverpool wasted a number of chances to go ahead early in the game, but Luis Alberto made sure it did not cost them much by cashing in on a ball from Iago Aspas’s rebounded effort, thereby registering his first goal for the Reds.

Giancarlo Gonzalez’s equaliser for Valerenga four minutes later was nullified by Iago Aspas, who finally got his name on the score-sheet after an impressive outing, as he put Liverpool back into the lead with the first half coming to an end.

Rodgers made as many as ten changes to start off in the second half, with Steven Gerrard also coming on. Martin Kelly extended Liverpool’s lead further by getting one past Valerenga goalkeeper Gudmund Kongshavn in the 55th minute.

While Valerenga enjoyed a better second half, Liverpool continued to create chances especially Fabio Borini, who missed as many as three chances. Just when it looked like the game would end 3-1 to the Merseyside club, Raheem Sterling added one more in the final minute of the game to help Liverpool complete a commanding 4-1 victory over Valerenga.
