What's the story?

Liverpool are reeling from the loss of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, but according to latest reports on Sky Bet, the Reds are favourites ahead of both Manchester United and Barcelona to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann.

Liverpool are currently 7/2 favourites to sign Greizmann before February 3rd, ahead of Manchester United and Barcelona who are both at 14/1. While even the most ardent and optimistic of Liverpool fans will be skeptical about the news, the sudden slashing of odds in the betting market has certainly got a lot of transfer experts interested.

Antoine Griezmann's future has been subject to intense speculation

The 26-year-old superstar has continuously been linked with a move to either Manchester United or Barcelona, but it seems like Liverpool are now ready to put the Coutinho money to good use and sign the French forward.

The heart of the matter

Having had a stupendous 2016, where he finished 3rd in the Ballon d'Or rankings, Griezmann had a slightly subdued 2017 by his own high standards. Capable of playing out wide or through the centre, there is no doubting the fact that the Atletico Madrid man is one of the biggest names available in the transfer market.

However, with Liverpool only 4th on the Premier League table and not realistic Champions League contenders, it is tough to see Griezmann making the move this January. Stranger things have happened though and the lure of playing at Anfield under the charismatic Jurgen Klopp might just see one of the most surprising deals of all time come to fruition in the coming weeks.

Liverpool fans must be salivating at the prospect of Griezmann combining with the likes of Salah, Firmino, and Mane in the Premier League.

Author's take

While Griezmann will undoubtedly be a dream signing for Liverpool, the likelihood of the French superstar moving to Anfield instead of Manchester United or Barcelona seems very low.

However, having played under Simeone, Griezmann will definitely be an ideal signing for Klopp's style of play and Liverpool should go all out int heir attempts to sign the Atletico Madrid striker.
