Liverpool have fitness advantage: Brendan Rodgers admits FA Cup exit positives

Brendan Rodgers has opted to look on the bright side of Liverpool’s FA Cup exit, claiming it could benefit the Reds in their rise up the Premier League table.

Liverpool were dumped out of the cup at the fifth round stage as they were downed 2-1 by Arsenal in controversial circumstances, with Liverpool outraged that they were not awarded a second penalty in the game.

But Rodgers has reflected in positive fashion in hindsight and feels that a lack of other distractions could work in Liverpool’s favour as they aim to launch a Premier League title bid.

Rodgers told reporters, “Ideally, we would have more games and be in more competitions, but it gives us a chance to make sure players’ fitness levels are correct.

“We can taper the week in terms of focusing in on the one game. But for us, we are very determined and I have said before it is just about narrowing the focus in onto each and every one of these games and be at out maximum.

“Going into every game, we’ve started well. If you align that with the support we’ve got, which is remarkable, that’s really helped us with our home form.

“If you’re going to be successful that’s going to be vital for you. So we’re looking to create that not just for now, but for the future as well.”

Liverpool remain just four points off the top, with all three of their rivals distracted by the Champions League, while Manchester City and Arsenal still have the FA Cup to contend with as well.
