Jose Mourinho is back in the Premier League once again after landing the Tottenham Hotspur job hours after the club announced the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. Rumours were rife about Mourinho moving to Spurs once Pochettino was given the sack late last night.
Is Mourinho the right way for trophyless Spurs?
Now, Mourinho has been given a vote of confidence by ex-Liverpool manager and Sky Sports football pundit Graeme Souness, who believes that the Portuguese is the correct fit for the North London outfit.
Jose Mourinho is a perfect fit for them. Spurs are genuinely a big football club and they need someone who can turn what is perceived to be attacking attractive football into a slightly more pragmatic approach that will put some silverware in the boardroom.
He has won trophies wherever he's been and I would expect him to do the same at Spurs. Deep inside, he is an angry and frustrated man with the way it turned out for him at United, so I think Spurs will reap the benefit of that.
Will they win the league this year? No. But they will be far more difficult to play against.
He is walking into a job in our league with no surprises, he knows what's ahead of him, he knows the players he is playing against and will have a real grasp of the players he is working with.
Tottenham decided to part ways with Pochettino after five years of service. The Argentine's poor start to the season had seen last year's Champions League runners-up languishing 14th in the Premier League table, whilst his relations with the dressing room had apparently reached a breaking point.
It will be interesting to see what Pochettino's next move will be.
