Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is still a reported target for Barcelona, despite latest bite incident

Uruguay and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez

L Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is still a top transfer target for Barcelonadespite the latest biting scandal Suarez has sparked, this time with Uruguay, according to the Daily Mirror.

Suarez, 27, was fantastic for Liverpool last season and scored 31 goals in the Premier League, winning the Golden Boot and scooping up all player awards available to him in the process.

He has bitten players twice on two separate occasions in the past and caused more controversy yesterday after appearing to sink his teeth into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder.

Television replays showed what looked to be a clear intent on Suarez’s part to bite Chiellini and he has been hammered in the press for the incident, largely due to the fact the incident is the third of its kind involving the Reds talisman.

The Uruguayan had been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona this summer and many thought this incident, which may well end his World Cup campaign through suspension, would quash the La Liga duo’s interest. However, it is thought that the Catalan club have not been put off in their pursuit of the super striker.

He scored twice on his first appearance in the tournament against England despite not being fully fit and looked lively and dangerous against Italy until the biting incident occurred with Chiellini.

It is also reported that Barcelona’s interest is so great that Liverpool may well even receive a bid of around £80 million plus a player, thought to be Alexis Sanchez, to pry him Suarez away.
