Dejan Lovren: Southampton’s rock at the back

Liverpool have made a £15 million bid for Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren, according to reports in the Daily Star.

The Croatian defender has been a target for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the last few weeks and he seems set for pastures new, along with team-mate Adam Lallana.

Southampton have been bombarded with interest in players and staff members, after manager Mauricio Pochettino left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday afternoon. The Argentine will take over at White Hart Lane straight away which has led to question marks surrounding the future of many of Southampton’s main stars.

Lovren is one of those and after a fantastic campaign, the former Lyon defender is subject to interest from Liverpool who are attempting to shore up their defence.

Croatian defender Lovren, who will also be at the World Cup, arrived under a banner of doubt with a lot of French observers stating that he would fail to adapt to life in the Premier League.

However the centre-back has produced a series of impressive displays to dispel the doubters and prove himself to be one of the signings of the season.

Liverpool signed three centre-backs last summer, but they still managed to concede 50 goals.
