What's the news?

After a brilliant display in Liverpool's 5-0 win against Watford, Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed what led to his brilliant performance in the opposition third. The right back claimed that he exploited the lack of enthusiasm the Hornets wingers showed in tracking him down.

In case you didn't know...

Alexander-Arnold created history against Watford as he became the youngest player to assist three goals in a Premier League fixture.

The young Englishman set up Sadio Mane twice in the opening 20 minutes, before providing a well-tuned free-kick that Virgil van Dijk guided into the back of the net in the second half.

The 20-year-old is among the best young players in the world at the moment and finished as the runner-up for the Golden Boy accolade last year. He was also the recipient of Liverpool Young Player of the Year accolade on two occasions.

He joined Liverpool's youth academy at the age of six and first broke into the Liverpool's first team scenario when Nathaniel Clyne suffered from a long-term injury ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The heart of the matter

Speaking to LFC TV (via Goal), Trent Alexander-Arnold explained how he exploited the space given to him by Watford wingers, saying:

“Obviously it’s every full-back’s dream to provide assists and to get three in a game is probably not something I’ll get the privilege of saying too often.
But I’m happy to be able to provide the team with chances to score and credit to the lads for taking them, especially Virg with his two goals, who’s shown that he’s a real aerial threat.
It was one of them where maybe their wingers weren’t probably that enthusiastic in tracking us and if the lads got the ball out wide to me and Robbo, that maybe we could provide crosses in and that’s the way it worked."

He further added:

"I think especially first half we had a lot of freedom down the sides and we tried to provide as many balls into the box as we could for the lads.
We had a bit more of an aerial threat with Sadio being so good in the air and Divock [Origi] coming into the team, who’s a big lad, so it was important for us to give them service and that’s what we did."

What's next?

Liverpool are scheduled to play Everton and Fulham in the league next, before squaring up against Bayern Munich for the second leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie on March 14.
