Liverpool are reportedly set to launch a £40million bid for Karim Benzema this summer according to the Metro, having given up hope of keeping hold of Luis Suarez as he looks to force through a move away from the Premier League.

The move for Suarez to complete his move to Barcelona could be finalised over the weekend according to some reports, with the Catalan club not put by the fact the striker will not be eligible to play until the beginning of November, after FIFA upheld Suarez’ four month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini.

Liverpool are set to pocket somewhere in the region of £63million for the Uruguayan forward who has made it clear that he wishes to escape England after his relationship with the media deteriorated over the past 18 months, but it has become apparent that Liverpool will require somebody to fill the void left by Suarez.

This has led them to the door of Benzema, with his future with Real Madrid as ever clouded with doubt, as the European champions continue to examine further options to lead their expensively assembled front line, with Radamel Falcao continually linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Benzema is believed to be open to a move that would see his importance to a team valued more highly and Liverpool are set to test Real’s resolve with a bid in excess of £40m, as they look to adequately replace Suarez and ensure they continue to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League honours.
