Liverpool release statement on Luis Suarez ban

Luis Suarez handed a 4-month ban by FIFA

Liverpool have made a statement in response to Luis Suarez’s four month ban from all football related activities, as seen on their official website.

Ian Ayre, chief executive officer, said: “Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment.”

It has also been confirmed by FIFA that Suarez will be able to be transferred during his ban, meaning that rumoured interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona will not be easily dismissed by this decision.

Suarez has been banned after seemingly biting Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s decisive clash with Italy at the World Cup. Suarez seemingly turned towards the Italian defender before making a biting action after a scuffle in the penalty area, which resulted in both players falling to the ground. Photographs of Chiellini after the incident seem to show bite marks on his shoulder.

Uruguay went on to win the match 1-0, with Diego Godin scoring a header from a corner kick. Italy were eliminated from the competition as a result, with Uruguay progressing to the knockout stages of the World Cup.
