Andre Wisdom – On his way to Derby

Liverpool’s Andre Wisdom is set to join Derby County on loan today where he will stay until the end of the current season.

The English defender, 20, tweeted last night: “Can’t wait to start at Derby.”

Wisdom has featured just twice for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, against Manchester United and Swansea City, but did manage to appear 12 times last season.

The move will be good for a player rated highly at Anfield who has struggled to find a place in the starting 11 since the arrivals of defensive powerhouses Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure. Shifting those two was always going to be a difficult task but that task gets even harder when you throw in Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel into the mix; it is imperative that Wisdom seeks first-team football elsewhere.

Wisdom, at nature, is a centre-back but has found himself playing mainly in place of Glen Johnson at right-back under Brendan Rodgers.

In his two short Premier League appearances this season, he has managed to achieve a 50% success rate for duels, including winning 3/3 tackles, 1/1 take-on and 1/4 headed duels.

However, last season, he won 71% of his duels with a staggering 90% success rate when tackling and a 100% take-on record.

Wisdom’s average pass accuracy, last season, was an impressive 89% which shows he is comfortable on the ball.

The move to Derby will allow Wisdom to develop – something Rodgers wants desperately – so the move should be good for him. Derby are 8th in the SkyBet Championship, 11 points off leaders, Burnley.
