Liverpool should go after Wilfred Ndidi

As Liverpool moved into second place ahead of Manchester United on Saturday evening, they found themselves in the best position they have been in for a number of years.

The Reds are not only in fine form in the Premier League but also in the Champions League as they have all but secured their place in the quarter-final with a 5-0 first leg win over Porto.

However, there is still room for improvement in the side despite the pending arrival of Naby Keita to Anfield when the transfer window re-opens.

Best Position

The Red Bull Leipzig star is expected to slot straight into Jurgen Klopp's side but he should be joined by another African midfielder. As Keita is an energetic box-to-box player, he shouldn't be restricted to a defensive role and one player that could fill that void is Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi.

Over the last few years, Liverpool have struggled to find a solid ball-winner as Jordan Henderson and Emre Can have both tried, and failed, in the position.

Leicester's stand-out player this season certainly has the potential. Since N'Golo Kante's departure to Chelsea, the Foxes haven't been able to find anyone on his level but now Ndidi has stepped up and is making the position his own.

The 21-year-old definitely has his best years ahead of him. Frightening really, considering the quality he is currently performing at, making him the perfect acquisition for one of the 'big six' in the top-flight.

Invaluable Member

He has made more tackles and interceptions than any other player in Europe's top five leagues this season, showing his unbelievable ability to recover the ball for his side. His manager, Claude Puel, said he is Leicester's "most important and most consistent player" before their clash with Bournemouth on Saturday.

Ndidi won't come cheap, especially because of his young age, but he would be a top draw investment for Liverpool and he showed in his limited Champions League appearances last term that he can compete with Europe's best.

Foxes fans will be desperate to hold onto their lively youngster after they couldn't do the same with Kante but his head could easily be turned by a side challenging in the elite competitions.

Fighting for the Signing

Liverpool might have to fight for his signature with the former Genk man receiving lots of attention from some of the continent's top teams and must inquire early if they are serious about bringing him to Merseyside.

Wilfred Ndidi shouldn't just be seen as a player with extremely high potential but as one who is more than able to play in the Premier League right now. It would be a massive statement of intent from Klopp and would undoubtedly improve a midfield which is expected to lose Can to Juventus in the summer.
