Liverpool are close to completing a move for Obi

Liverpool are all set to complete the signing of 15-year-old Bury defender Emeka Obi. The teenage wonder kid stands at a towering 6ft 5ins and has a Nigerian heritage.

Obi has made some strides in the last couple of months after becoming the youngest player to represent League One club Bury FC in a competitive football match. The tall center back played his first full game for Bury FC against Morecambe FC in the Checkatrade trophy.

According to The Bury Times, the club rates the young teenager very highly and had held talks with Bury over his move to Merseyside in the past. Liverpool have apparently agreed to a compensation around a six figure sum for the 15-year-old including add-ons.

Emeka Obi would become another excellent addition to Liverpool’s already impressive academy players. The 6ft 5ins defender will be joining the club’s under-18 squad headed by Neil Critchley. The 15-year-old center back was also on loan with Stoke City in the summer and was described by Bury FC manager David Flitcroft as ‘the best talent in England.’

“I think he’s the best talent right now at 15 years old in the entire country,” said the Bury FC manager. “He only came in the building two years ago, and nothing fazes him. He’s been training with the first team, and he’s going back to school next week.”

“We’ve had him for five weeks, training with the first team, training with Ryan Kidd and he’s been playing with the under-18s. He’s just turned 15, he’s a man mountain, but we teach them how to play football, and he’s going to be an unbelievable asset to the football club. He’s a kid that’s really switched on, I’ve watched him while he’s been on summer holidays and he’s been in every single day,” he added.

Emeka Obi can surely be happy with the move primarily because Jurgen Klopp shows a keen interest in Liverpool academy players and has given plenty of chances to several up and coming youngsters from the youth setup ever since he joined the club last year.

Jurgen Klopp can certainly use a 6ft 5in center back for the future given Liverpool’s weakness in set play’s which has cost them several clean sheets this season. Klopp had identified the lack of height in the squad and had brought in Joel Matip in the summer from Schalke who is now become the first choice center back for the team.
