Christian Pulisic decided to stay at Dortmund despite interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool

Borussia Dortmund's teenage sensation, Christian Pulisic has revealed where his loyalties lie in the Premier League. In an interview with ESPN, the 17-year-old has stated that his favourite team in England is Manchester United and his favourite player is United's captain, Wayne Rooney. This news may not go down well with the Liverpool supporters as the Reds had made a bid £11 million this summer to secure his services.

Pulisic said, "I was a big Manchester United fan when I was younger, so I loved to watch Wayne Rooney. I wouldn't say I'm a similar player, though. I think his passion for the game is something you don't see much in players. That's what I loved about him." The teenager garnered interest from many teams this summer but Dortmund were adamant that the USA international won't be sold at any cost.

He continued on the rumours regarding his future and said, "I hear about it. I have social media. Obviously I'm not completely closed to the world. But I don't let it affect me or how I'm playing at the time. The whole time throughout I was just focused on training every day. It's a huge club with a lot of good players, so I'm just fighting for my position in the team.".

Impressive performances for Dortmund and the US national side

Pulisic was bought by Jurgen Klopp during his Dortmund days and the German manager wanted to sign the highly rated player in the summer. The 17-year-old came to Dortmund 18 months ago and had already cemented his place in the first team squad. He scored two goals after making his debut in February making him the youngest non-German player to score in the Bundesliga. Pulisic has also made his international senior debut for the United States.

Pulisic has three goals in seven games for his national side, the United States, as he impressed yesterday in a World Cup qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago. The youngster is going to find it tough to get chances in Dortmund's first team this season, as they have bought Mario Gotze and Andre Schurrle. Stoke City and CSKA Moscow too were interested in signing the youngster from Dortmund and it will be interesting to see just where Pulisic lands at the end of the next transfer window.
