Reports: Liverpool to rival Manchester United for £100 million rated star

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League
Klopp to upset Mourinho?

What's the rumour?

Liverpool are set to rival their Premier League rivals Manchester United for the signing of Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale according to the Spanish media outlet Don Balon. After the sale of Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona, Liverpool have the funds to sign a marquee player and Klopp could use a part of the fee received to sign the Welshman if the report is to be believed.

In case you didn't know...

Bale, who joined Real Madrid in 2013, has been having a really bad time at Santiago Bernabeu recently as he is often sidelined with injuries. Due to the same reason, the player has become unpopular among the fans and could be sold if they receive a good bid.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star was linked with a move back to the Premier League with Jose Mourinho's Manchester United being the most prime suitors.

The Heart of the matter

If the report from Don Balon is to be believed, Klopp intends to spend the money he has in further bolstering his attack. The club is even ready to battle the player's long-term admirers Manchester United to get their man.

During his six-year stint with Tottenham, Bale scored a total of 42 goals from 146 appearances. The former Southampton player, who started his career as a left-back before becoming a winger, was one of the best players in the league when he left for Spain in 2013 and a move back to England is on the cards for him now.

The Welshman is mainly known for his blistering pace and dominating strength, which makes him perfectly tailored for English football.

Rumour Probability

2/10

Don Balon isn't really reliable when it comes to transfer rumours. In fact, Bale has had a good spell at Real Madrid, so if he does move elsewhere, you'd presume it'll be to a side who can challenge for major honours immediately.

Author's take

While Bale is a great player and would be a great addition to the Liverpool squad, the player's arrival will also cause confusion over the team selection for manager Klopp. With the trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah performing exceptionally well even in the absence of Coutinho, the signing of Bale look somewhat unnecessary.

And also if the player has decided to move back to the Premier League, Manchester United will be first in the queue for him. Mourinho will give his all to get his target ahead of Liverpool.
