Liverpool Transfer News: Hamburg to offer Joe Cole escape route

Bundesliga giants, Hamburg are willing to table an offer for the Reds’ outcast, who endured a horrific debut season with the Reds.

Joe Cole might be put out of his misery

The former Stamford Bridge player, Joe Cole was envisaged as a marquee signing and a massive coup by Roy Hodgson at the start of his managerial tenure, but the player was nothing more than a shadow of his former creative self. He joined Liverpool on a Bosman transfer with a massive salary believed to be in the region of £90,000-a-week.

His debut with the Reds ended in the first sending off of his entire career, when he lunged needlessly at another debutant, Laurent Koscielny of Arsenal, in the very first game of the season. His much-anticipated return from the suspension was no different, with patchy displays and abysmal touches making him a laughing stock of the football fans across the globe. Cole made only 16 starts for Liverpool last season.

With the Reds pretty well-equipped in the midfield department and the two new additions, Henderson and Adam bolstering it further, chances of Joe Cole starting for Liverpool, nest season are bleak and thus, the former West Ham starlet will look forward to offers this summer in order to kick start his free-falling career. At 29, he is not getting any younger and he needs to get some playing time under his belt if he wishes to prolong his stuttering career. Cole’s injury record is not impressive either and all the interested clubs will be wary of the fact.

Despite his shortcomings, Cole is a proven English talent and Hamburg are in dire need of a quality, creative midfielder that can hold the reins from the midfield and links up well with the forwards. With Cole having fallen down the pecking order and Liverpool owners FSG wanting to cut the astronomical wage bill at the club, Cole is almost certain to make a move this summer, away from Anfield.

Earlier, reports this week had confirmed his boyhood club West Ham’s interest in him but a potential move was deterred due to his high wages and Hammers’ financial restraints.. But now, The People reports that Hamburg are ready to cough up a fee for a transfer, or even pay a significant majority of the player’s wages, which will be a massive relief to all the stakeholders involved as Liverpool are in dire need of reducing their massive wage bill and Cole needs some playing time, as soon as possible.
