A very exciting game at Anfield with the visitors just coming up short
A very exciting game at Anfield with the visitors just coming up short

Just two months before they met in the Champions League final, Liverpool hosted Spurs at Anfield in one of their biggest challenges of the league season. The Reds were first in the Premier League table as they entered this game, with their opponents sitting at 3rd. The title was expected to go to either Liverpool or Manchester City, and both the teams were fighting for every single point. As such, this game lived up to the hype.

Roberto Firmino put the hosts ahead in the 16th minute, and Lucas Moura equalised for the visitors in the 70th minute. It seemed as if the game was heading for a stalemate until the 90th minute. After a good ball from a set-piece, Mohamed Salah headed the ball towards all the Spurs goal. Amidst all the confusion, the ball deflected off of Toby Alderweireld into his net as the home fans erupted with joy.

It was a stoppage-time winner for Liverpool as they managed to beat a resilient Spurs team at home.

#3 Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Liverpool, 15th September 2018

Liverpool conquered White Hart Lane for one last time
Liverpool conquered White Hart Lane for one last time

The two clubs met for the last time at White Hart Lane before the demolition of Spurs' old home ground. During the initial weeks of the 2018-19 season, Liverpool sat second in the table as they visited 6th placed Spurs. Dele Alli and Son Heung-min did not start for the home team, whereas Naby Keita was handed one of his first starts for Liverpool.

The Reds came into this game losing just one match out of their last 12 in the league, whereas Spurs had begun the season a bit out of form. Jurgen Klopp's men dominated this game for the most part, as midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum put his team ahead in the 39th minute, with Roberto Firmino doubling the lead in the 54th minute.

Spurs got one goal back through Erik Lamela in the 90th minute, but it was too little too late for Pochettino and his team as they lost at home to a Liverpool team who would go on to dominate Europe that season.
