New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is set to make an ambitious £15 million bid for PSV Eindhoven youngster Memphis Depay, according to the Express.

The 20-year-old has been in blistering form for the Eredivisie outfit this season and finished the campaign as their second highest goalscorer despite his tender years.

However, the left sided winger’s performances have not gone unnoticed across the continent, with his national manager now interested in brining him to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal recently included Depay in his provisional World Cup squad, demonstrating how highly he is rated by the 62-year-old and reports suggest the youngster will be given a place in the final 23-man squad too.

Quick, excellent on the ball and with an ability to beat his man, Depay has been tipped to provide the creative spark that was often found to be lacking within the Red Devils’ midfield ranks.

He could provide competition with fellow youngster Adnan Januzaj and will also add much needed options across the midfield following the retirement of Ryan Giggs.

Given that United’s performances have been uninspiring since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Depay is an exciting talent and could help to restore a sense of excitement to the stands with his eye catching displays.

The club are in somewhat of a difficult situation as the youngster’s price will soar if he performs well in Brazil with his national side, while Van Gaal will not be able is keen to conclude his business with the Netherlands before turning his attention to United.

But, working in close proximity with the youngster with Depay during the summer could tip the balance in his favour and help negotiate a deal ahead of their rivals.
