Luis Suarez: You won’t catch me doing the Sturridge dance

Speaking to Liverpool’s official television channel, LFCTV, Luis Suarez has expressed his delight at being back in the first-team and his partnership with Daniel Sturridge which makes him ‘so happy’.

Suarez has recently returned from a 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic last season but is excited to be playing again after scoring six goals in his last four league matches.

“I came back to play for Liverpool in September and when you wait a long time to come back to the pitch, you try the best for the team,” said the Uruguayan.

Suarez built strong foundations for an exhilarating partnership with Daniel Sturridge last season and continued it into this one.

“I am so happy because when you have a very good striker, a very good partner, you try your best and for a defender it’s a little difficult because they have attention for two players, not only one, and when Daniel has space he kills you,” said Suarez when asked about Sturridge.

“When two defenders come for me, there’s space for Danny. This is important but not for me, for the team and for the confidence also.

“He’s a very good player and he changed his head because of his difficult moments at Chelsea and [Manchester] City. It’s a good time for him and I am so happy.”

Suarez is clearly delighted with how things are going presently and it looks like he is willing to put all the the shenanigans during the summer behind him.

Suarez scored 30 goals in all competitions last season with Sturridge the next highest scorer at Liverpool with 11 goals so he is pleased to see the goal scoring responsibility spread out more evenly this season.

“The responsibility is for him now but when Danny is scoring, Stevie [Gerrard] or another player is scoring.

“I am happy and the team is happy.”

In terms of his communication and link up with Sturridge, Suarez is pleased how it is going between the pair.

“For the striker it is more difficult because you are concentrating on the shot on the goal and when he shoots, or I shoot, we know as the striker. We understand and we can discuss it on the pitch or after the game. It’s really good,” declared Suarez.

Furthermore, Luis Suarez admits he would “never” do the Sturridge dance, but admits he likes seeing the ex-Chelsea player performing the dance after each goal.
