Brazil defender David Luiz apologised to all his countrymen, as Brazil were dumped out of the world cup following a 7-1 shellacking at the hands of Germany. Luiz, the now PSG-bound star, adorned the captain's armband in the absence of Thiago Silva, who was suspended for the clash.

While asking for forgiveness he said,"I just wanted to give some happiness to my people. To my people , who suffer so much already. Unfortunately, we couldn't do it. I'm sorry everyone. Sorry to all Brazilians. I wanted to see my people smiling."

"Everyone knows how important it was for me to make the Brazilians people happy, even if just because football.", he added. The result also left goal-keeper Julio Cesar just as shell-shocked and echoed his team-mates' pardon. "Honestly, its hard to explain. You can't explain the inexplicable." said the former Inter Milan man.

"It was beautiful up to here. I thank the Brazilian people and the fans are to be congratulated for all the support". Stunned by the jolt, he further added, "The players... are going to apologise , but they [Germany] were very strong and we have to acknowledge that. After the first goal we just had a blackout, nobody expected that."
