Former agent claims Luis Suarez has "psychological problems"

Luis Suarez’s former agent claims the player has “psychological problems” after Suarez said he owes him $200,000.

Barcelona FC striker Luis Suarez has become embroiled in a bitter row with former agent Daniel Fonseca who claims Suarez has “psychological problems”. The former agent and ex-Uruguay international has been accused by Suarez of keeping $200,000 that was owed to him when he transferred from Uruguayan side Nacional de Montevideo to Eredivisie side Groningen in 2006.

According to Suarez, Fonseca tricked the then 19-year-old over how much money he would receive from the transfer and kept the majority of the money to himself. Speaking to Uruguayan TV channel Monte Carlo, Suarez responded to rumours regarding Fonseca and the transfer fee by claiming he was disappointed with the way his former agent treated him.

“That was one of the disappointments I had with Daniel,” Suarez said.

“He also told me I was going to make €30,000 a month, and I made €10,000. He tried to compensate me when I went to Ajax (in 2007), but I've always had this sticking point. Because he was a footballer and knows the difficulties young players have and what they suffer to make money.”

Fonseca has since hit back at claims that he kept any money owed to Suarez, directing explosive comments towards the current Barcelona star which highlight his previous behavioural problems on the pitch. Fonseca, who played for Juventus, Roma, Napoli and River Plate, denied allegations he owed Suarez any money and suggested Suarez was a child who needed to use his fingers to count.

“(Suarez) is a liar, he is brazen and shameless,” Fonseca told Uruguayan radio station Las Voces del Futbol.

“He is lying, he has psychological problems, he goes to a psychologist but it’s not working. I don't need him, I’m famous without him, I don’t respect him as a person and cannot accept disrespect from a kid who needs to use his fingers to add up, as he does not know what is four plus four”.

The former agent referred to several controversies Suarez has been involved with in recent years, which include racially abusing former Manchester United player Patrice Evra and biting Branislav Ivanovic and then Giorgio Chiellini in the 2014 World Cup.

Fonseca said he believed Suarez was trying to “stain” his name by claiming he owed him $200,000 and said the money was owed to Suarez by Nacional and not him. He added that he helped Suarez earn $7 million over five years and that the player actually owes him $1.4 million.

He then went on to claim that the real reason Suarez had made these allegations was due to an “uncomfortable” incident involving Suarez in the Uruguay youth team, though would not disclose any details.

“This is happening because one day three teammates from the Uruguay youth team called me to say something uncomfortable was happening with Luis,” he said.

“I had to tell him something hard, but until the day I die I will not repeat it”.

In what has been a fiery exchange, we can only wonder what Suarez allegedly did while in the youth team that resulted in the bust up. After such explosive comments we fully expect that Suarez, who has 39 goals in all competitions this season, will have his own response in the coming days.
