Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski believes that his team mate and compatriot Serge Gnabry has the ability to be included in Germany’s World Cup squad.

The 18-year-old midfielder has made nine league appearances this season and become a permanent fixture in Arsene Wenger’s squad. He possesses pace, power and outstanding technical ability, which is a trademark trait of many players that progress through Arsenal’s ranks.

However, competition for places in Germany’s squad for the prestigious tournament in Brazil this summer is fierce, with a host of attacking talent at coach Joachim Low’s disposal.

But Podolski is adamant the youngster is worthy of a spot despite his tender years.

“He has the quality to jump on the World Cup train. Jogi Löw has to decide whether he is mature enough to participate there.

“I was at my first major tournament in 2004, 18 years old. I think it’s great that someone like Serge plays for Arsenal and is brought into focus here,” he declared toBild.

Meanwhile, Podolski has admitted he is not fazed by that fact he has failed to secure a starting berth in Arsene Wenger’s side recently, pointing to his experience as a decisive factor in what he can offer the north Londoners.

“The coach will decide in the end who is on the pitch, and that must be respected. I’ve always played the last few years and brought my performance, I have 111 international caps. The coach knows my strengths, he could always rely on me. And he can in the future,” Podolski insisted
