Luke Shaw refuses to give up on Premier League title race

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has said that it would be wrong for other teams to think that the Red Devils are not contenders for the title. The 20-time league champions snatched a draw in the 94th minute against leaders Chelsea at Old Trafford in an encouraging performance.

The draw meant United slipped from 7th to 8th with 13 points to their name in 9 matches. At this same juncture last season, the club had one more point under David Moyes.

"Of course we are still in the title race. It's a long season and we are at the start of it. You don't know what will happen during the middle of the season”. Shaw said.

Shaw was bought from Southampton for an undisclosed fee on a four-year deal.

Have to keep winning upcoming games

The 19-year-old added that United are yet to play up to their full potential and once they start doing so, they could strike fear into opposition hearts.

"We just have to keep winning the games coming up. There will be tough games but we know we are good enough to win them. We know we have still got the best to come. I don't think we are playing our best at the moment and sometimes you saw that against Chelsea”. he said.

"It will take time but when we are all on form I think we are going to be a scary team to face." he added.

After a thrilling 1-1 draw versus Chelsea, United will face rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, in the first Manchester derby of the season.

Wayne Rooney is expected to return to the starting XI after his three-game suspension though latest reports say he has sustained an ankle injury in training and may miss the tie. Radamel Falcao could return for the game after missing the game against Chelsea.

"It's pretty obvious what this match means to the fans and the club. I don't think I need to be told about it and the other [new signings] will be aware too,"

"I've watched it for the past years and I've seen how much it means to everyone”. The left-back said.

Dad supports United now

On a personal note, the Surrey-born player said that his father, who was earlier a Chelsea supporter, now roots for Manchester United.

"My dad is a United fan now. He's not Chelsea any more. He is a United fan now and he won't be too happy [with Sunday's result] because he wanted us to win really badly." Shaw said with a smile.
