Macheda wishes to extend loan spell

Federico Macheda has revealed that he would like to return to Stuttgart for another loan spell. On loan from Manchester United, the 21-year old striker joined the German club in January earlier this year and has made 9 appearances for them without scoring a goal.

But with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez already in United’s attack, Macheda says he would prefer another loan spell rather than be a backup striker at Old Trafford. Speaking to Italian website calciomercato.it, Macheda said:

“My experience at Stuttgart is going very well. I have immediately familiarised myself, and the relationship with my team-mates and coaches is great.

“In June the loan will end but I already have a verbal agreement with Stuttgart to extend my stay. If there is a chance to, I would be really happy to stay.”

However, the Italian U21 is not closing door to a return to Manchester United. He added:

“My relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson is great and it’s clear that I have always had the desire to return and play for the Red Devils. But returning now would not be good for my career because I need to play with continuity.”

The product of Lazio’s youth academy, Macheda joined United shortly after his 16th birthday and came into the limelight after scoring a brilliant goal late in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in the 2008-09 season. However, a failure to make a place for himself in the star studded United lineup saw him spend loan spells at Sampdoria and QPR before joining Stuttgart. And Macheda wishes to return to Italy someday to play for Lazio. He added:

“In the future I would like to go back to my country, and play in Serie A.”
