FA Cup: Manchester United's probable XI against Preston North End

Van Gaal prepares for a trip to Preston

Manchester United back of another unflattering win against Burnley in the Premier League play Preston North End in the FA cup. Squad players like Young are expected to feature but Louis Van Gaal has surprisingly this season refused to change his starting 11 even when things are not going smoothly. With a line of tough fixture ahead in the Premier League, the Dutch coach will hope that United will striker some sort of form so that they can hold onto their Champions League qualification hopes.

Victor Valdes will be expected to start ahead of the impressive but overworked David De Gea. Ashley Young also should start after his long injury lay off. The Rooney experiment in midfield will continue as Louis Van Gaal is a stubborn man but one of RvP or Falcao will give way for the young James Wilson.

Manchester United will be expected to play with a midfield diamond with the full backs moving ahead and providing the width. The diamond so far hasn’t worked as expected for United, but like the 3-5-2 formation, Van Gaal is expected to persevere with the diamond for quite sometime.

All the great United sides under Fergie had amazing wingers and their play in the final third was based on quick movement and dazzling runs, everything of which is missing at the moment. United fans can only hope that their summer buys finally start firing and a Champions League spot is confirmed for the next year.
