What’s the story?

Jose Mourinho is still not happy with the squad he has at Manchester United and has sent his scouts to hunt for players. The one position the manager has made sure that he gets players for is the left side of the defence.

According to El Gol Digital, Mourinho has set his sights on Aaron Matin. The Espanyol defender has a €30 million release clause and United are willing to activate it.

In case you didn’t know...

Martin made his senior debut last year in October for Espanyol. He's been a regular in the squad ever since and has impressed in all his outings. He's earned a call-up for Spain's U21 already.

The heart of the matter

Manchester United's hunt for a left-back has landed them at RCD Espanyol. The Spanish side have Aaron Matins playing for them – a player who's regarded as one of the best youngsters in La Liga.

The defender was a target for Real Madrid in the summer but when a move for Thoe Hernandez materialized, they dropped their interest in the Espanyol youngster. The 20-year-old has also attracted interest from Barcelona and Manchester City as well.

What’s next?

Barcelona are still interested in signing him while some reports suggest that the Cityzens will also be making a move for him as Benjamin Mendy is out for the season.

Espanyol will have no chance of keeping him with such big clubs interested in him. They would be trying to convince him to stay for the season or at least sign a new contract so that they can increase his release clause.

Author’s Take

Aaron Martin is a very good left back who's smart and quick. He anticipates the opponents moves well and intercepts the passes before the one who the pass was meant can even react.

Any club that signs him can forget about signing a left-back for the next 6-7 seasons at least as he's very good at what he does. Espanyol will be regretting that they only have a €30 million release clause in his contract.
