Reports: Manchester United player rejects contract, keen on joining Barcelona
What's the story?
Manchester United wonderkid Angel Gomes has been touted to be the next big superstar for the Premier League giants. However, if reports from The Sun are to be believed, the talented youngster is yet to sign a new contract with the Red Devils with Barcelona interested in securing his services.
The Premier League giants offered him his first professional contract last month when he turned seventeen, however, the talented English forward has not yet renewed his contract and Barcelona are extremely keen on signing the pacy youngster.
Gomes has enjoyed a meteoric rise in his United career having made appearances for the U-17, U-19 and even the senior squad last year where he came on to replace Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace. Quick, pacy and blessed with an uncanny knack for scoring crucial goals, Gomes is certainly tipped to achieve great things in his career.
In case you didn't know...
Highly regarded by the United coaching staff, Gomes has been earmarked as one for the future. The youngster who joined the United academy at Junior school has also captained the England national team at the junior level.
The youngest player since Duncan Edwards to make his senior debut for Manchester United, Gomes has been one of the star performers in youth levels and there is no doubting his talent and skill.
In fact, Gomes recently sent Manchester United fans into a frenzy when he scored a wonder goal for the U-18 side:
The heart of the matter
A lot of very young talents have recently left the Premier League to further their interests abroad. Manchester City recently lost out on talented Jadon Sancho to Dortmund while Chirs Willock decided to leave Arsenal and join Benfica.
While a lot of Barcelona youngsters like Fabregas, Pique, and Bellerin have successfully been signed by Premier League giants, the Catalan giants are looking to give Manchester United a taste of their own medicine and sign the 17-year-old wonderkid once his scholar contract with the Premier League giants ends.
This is why Barcelona are interested in signing Angel Gomes. What a talent!
The last time Manchester United allowed a talented academy player to leave and join a fellow European giant, they had to pay a £89 million fee to sign him back. While it is too early to compare the likes of Angel Gomes to a world-class superstar like Paul Pogba, United will be desperate to tie down the talented youngster and ward off the interest from Barcelona.
