Reports: Manchester United to bid £60m for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a transfer target for Manchester United

Manchester United are prepared to break the bank to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer. Louis van Gaal's men are desperately in need of reinforcements up top and could use the pace and panache of the Gabon striker.

United are planning to bid in excess of £60m to ensure they fend off competition from other European suitors who have long-scouter the tall Dortmund man. Aubemeyang was reportedly subject to an Arsenal bid in the winter transfer window with respected and reliable journalist, Kike Marin, claiming the North Londoners had even bid for the man.

Manchester United could have hold the right cards given they're willing to give Aubameyang a £200,000-a-week contract and the promise of making him a global superstar with endorsements and commercial backers.

Wayne Rooney has been great since the turn of the year but his overall season has been below par. New striker, Anthony Martial, is one for the future and is still getting used to the pace and the physicality of the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Memphis hasn't been able to replicate his form that won him the Player of the Year at PSV Eindhoven and Jesse Lingard – just like Martial – is getting to grips with regularly playing in the Premier League.

A player of Aubameyang's stature could heavily boost the club and their playing style. The Gabon man has been in sensational form this year having scored a mammoth 31 goals in just 29 appearances for the Ruhr club – some form he could carry to lessen the burden on Rooney and young Martial.
