Manchester United manager David Moyes has come out and defended Nani after he was booed off the pitch in United’s game against Stoke City.

Stoke were leading up until the hour mark after which Nani was replaced by youngster Adnan Januzaj. Even though Nani was responsible for creating the first goal, the fans vented their frustration on the winger as he was substituted.

But Moyes said of his winger, “He is a regular and captain for Portugal so he is very talented.”

“There were one or two decisions he might have made better, but he got us the (first) goal with a lovely ball. We have a lot of competition for places in the wide areas, incredible competition, and that is what we’re looking for.”

Manchester United ended up winning the game thanks to late goals from Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in the 78th and 80th minute. And Moyes was clearly a relieved man after the game and admitted that he would rather have United win these games without such nail biting moments.

“It was a win in the Premier League. They are hard to come by and they are not easy.”

“It was a big moment to win the game and hopefully we will continue to win games. If it’s in the same fashion then we’ll take it, but if we can make it a bit easier it will be great for the old ticker.”
