Manchester United departures: Detailed analysis

Manchester United had a busy deadline day with as many as nine youngsters leaving Old Trafford on a temporary basis and a few permanent sales. David Moyes recently suggested there wouldn’t be any new arrivals at the club after making a £37million club record signing of Juan Mata from rivals Chelsea. But hinted sending his youngsters away to get some match time and first team experienced.

David Moyes: “We have quite a few young players who will go on loan before the window closes, It’s for their development, they are looking for a different quality of football.”

United have a rich history of producing quality academy prospects who have went on to become successful first team regulars and Moyes intendeds to continue that tradition by putting faith in the youth system, allowing his academy talents to prove themselves on their Loan spells to earn promotions in summer.

David Moyes: “Reserve-team football doesn’t quite do that for them, so a lot of them will go out on loan, get experience and become better players for it.”

Cardiff signed Wilfried Zaha and Fabio da Silva with the latter on permanent basis,

21 year old Zaha who cost United £15m to lure him away from Crystal Palace, produced an impressive preseason performance for the Red Devils but, since has found a difficult to break into Moyes’ lineups, with the winger desperate for first team action finds an excellent opportunity to prove himself at Ole’s Cardiff City.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Zaha: “He has pace, power, technical ability and goes past people. He will give us that extra change of tempo in the final third, where we really need it.”

Brazilian Fabio on the other hand joins Zaha at Cardiff on a permanent basis after failing to make any notable impact in his six year tenure at Old Trafford.

Fabio: “I know this is the right move for me. I spoke a lot to the manager about coming in, and I know that I can help us move up the division.”

Will Keane who played four games on loan at Wigan, now joins Hary Redknapp’s London power house QPR till the end of the season.

Will Keane: “I joined because of the manager, he’s very experienced and been successful throughout his managerial career. QPR are also a big club. This is a good challenge for me – and one I’m looking forward to.”

“Will is a young player with fantastic potential. He’s got a good eye for goal, leads the line well and will provide us with good competition in the final third. We’re looking forward to welcoming him into the squad.” Harry Redknapp

Carlisle signed 19 year old duo Sam Byrne and Charni Ekangamene until the end of the season.

Byrne a Dublin born striker, joined United from local side St Josephs in 2011 has played in the Reds’ Uefa Youth League campaign earlier this season, he has represented the Republic of Ireland at all youth levels whereas, Charni Ekangamene who joined United from Royal Antwerp in his native Belgium amid interest from other English powerhouses like Arsenal and Chelsea, is an energetic and tough-tackling holding midfielder who is believed to be a key player in United’s under-21 set-up.

Birmingham is fast becoming a popular destination for United loanees, with Jesse Lingard proving popular during two spells there earlier this term, have now signed United trio of striker Federico Macheda and defenders Tom Thorpe and Tyler Blackett.

The 22-year-old Macheda has struggled after making an impressive start to his United career and since had a series of loan spells. Kiko joins Birmingham until the end of the season , and He will wear the no.9 shirt for the Blues.

The Manchester-born center back Tom Thorpe who is yet to feature in United’s first team, has been handed the No. 5 shirt at the Blues and has been included in the squad to face Derby.

Birmingham club website wrote:”Accomplished on the ground and excellent in the air. Thorpe was formerly captain of the England U19s side and subsequently moved up to represent the Three Lions at U20s level.”

Tyler Blackett is among the few loaned players who have a 28-day recall option in his loan contract, makes his second loan spell of this season after a month’s loan spell at Blackpool, the highly-rated England youth international is a versatile defender who can play at left-back, centre-back or the left-wing.

“I’m delighted to be here. It’s a good opportunity for me to come to a big club like this. I’ve known Tom my whole life, we’ve played together for the last eight or nine years and it will be great for me and him.” Blackett told Birmingham City’s online TV channel.

Yeovil Town who had Sam Johnstone on loan earlier in the campaign have signed 20 year old Manchester United forward Tom Lawrence on a three-month loan deal.

Tom who has just returned from a loan spell at Carlisle after making a real impression in League One scoring some spectacular goals and appearing in the FA Cup tie at Sunderland, joins Yeovil to help them battle relegation from the Championship.

“I am very pleased to be able to bring Tom into our squad from Manchester United. He’s a player that can play either side wide or as a regular number 10, Tom has got tremendous potential and has shown that at League One level with Carlisle and Manchester United have given us the opportunity to bring him on further in the Championship.” Glovers boss Gary Johnson

Doncaster signed 20 year old English goalkeeper Sam Johnstone who signed a new three-year contract at Old Trafford a couple of days ago. joins the rovers on a one-month loan deal.

United’s Premiere League rivals Fulham reinforced their midfield options signing Ryan Tunnicliffe and Larnell Cole on a permanent basis.

Tunnicliffe has previously spent time on loan at Peterborough United, Barnsley and Ipswich Town, while Cole has came through United’s academy and has been a regular in Warren Joyce’s Under-21s.

“I’ve known Rene since I was nine, I’m here now and glad to sign, I want to play at the highest level I possibly can and, to me, that’s the Premier League because it’s the best league in the world. I want to play as many games as I can and improve as a player because I’m only young. We’ll see where we go from there.” Tunnicliffe told Fulham’s website.

Both players won the FA Youth Cup with the Reds in 2011 and are promising English midfielders who worked with Cottagers boss Rene Meulensteen at Old Trafford.
