Manchester United Supporters’ Trust asked its followers on Facebook who they would prefer – Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale or United custodian David de Gea. According to the Trust, ‘over 99 percent’ of the 600 people who answered preferred the Spaniard over the Welshman.

De Gea has been linked with Real Madrid recently after United signed former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes. As he has only 18 months left on his contract and a contract is yet to be signed by the Spaniard, the speculation is only going to increase.

Real Madrid see the Manchester United goalkeeper as the heir to Iker Casillas and having come through the Atletico Madrid youth system, De Gea wouldn’t have any problem settling in at Madrid.

The Trust asked the question:

12 hours post the question was asked the spokesperson of the Supporters’ Trust revealed that over 99% of the people who participated, voted for the 24-year-old goalkeeper.

A spokesman of the Trust hoped that it would help the owners realize that getting De Gea to sign a new contract is a priority.

The spokesman said, “With this in mind it signals the challenge (executive vice-chairman) Ed Woodward and (owners) the Glazers have to get Manchester United's most popular player signed up on a new contract, before Real Madrid attempt to prise him away.”
