Manchester United are in the process of setting up a big for Feyenoord defender Martins Indi, according to report in the Express.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international has played an integral part in Louis van Gaal’s World Cup qualification campaign, and with the Dutch national team manager ready to take over at Manchester United, Indi is expected to join the veteran coach in moving to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new pair of centre-backs with the departure of Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan confirmed earlier this year and news coming from Old Trafford that Rio Ferdinand won’t be offered a new deal by Manchester United.

Vidic, who is joining Inter Milan, said: “I have been training and playing with these guys and they definitely have all the ability they need to become top players.

“Chris and Phil are attracting a lot of interest here because they are national-team players and the future of English football, not just Manchester United.

“They definitely have the physical strength, pace and technique to play for this club and now is the time for them to step up and to form the new partnership with Jonny Evans.

“Those three have to be the players who are carrying on and becoming the United defenders for the next seven or eight years. They have that capability and the experience to step up.”

Despite his tender age, Indi has 13 international appearances to his name while also clocking over a 100 club games for Eredivisie giants Feyenoord.

Rio Ferdinand has the highest pass accuracy of any Manchester United player in the Premier League this season (89%).
