What’s the story?

Jose Mourinho has one aim at Manchester United - to make them Premier League champions once again. The manager wants to make them the best in the country once again and he knows that he needs to get the best players for it.

Reports in the Sunday Express claim that the Red Devils have stepped up their effort to sign Gareth Bale this month. The Welsh international is allegedly not happy at Real Madrid as he is not able to play regularly due to his injuries.

There are reports that Bale is frustrated with the medical team at Bernabeu as they are not able to keep him fit for long. Los Blancos are also said to be looking to sell him as he is not performing well when given a chance.

In case you didn’t know…

Manchester United have been chasing Gareth Bale for a long time. He was on David Moyes' wish list while he was at Tottenham. The move was rejected by the player as he only wanted to move to the Bernabeu.

The heart of the matter

Things have changed now and he is looking to leave the club as soon as possible. Reports suggest that Real Madrid are willing to let go of him.

Apart from Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have been linked with him. The Welshman, however, is said to be favouring a move to Old Trafford as he wants to play under Mourinho.

Tottenham, though, have a chance to sign him ahead of everyone else. They have a clause in his Real Madrid contract that enables them to sign him for the same fee a club agrees for him.

They will have 72 hours from the time a deal is agreed upon, to match it and agree on personal terms with the player. The final decision, though, will be Gareth Bale's to take.

Author’s Take

If Bale can stay fit, he will be a brilliant signing. He is not the player Real Madrid had signed but that form can be regained again if he plays regularly and trains well.
