David de Gea injured his finger while training with the Spanish squad

David de Gea will miss Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifying match against Belarus on Saturday, according to a statement on the official website of the Spanish national team.

“Spain’s goalkeeper David de Gea was sidelined from training session after dislocating the little finger on his right hand. He will remain with the Spain squad while the medical services of the Spanish FA evaluate the extent of the injury.”

"Having suffered a similar situation in the past, De Gea will remain with the squad and will wait to see how he improves."

Spain face Belarus on Saturday, and then host world champions Germany on Tuesday next week. Having already lost midfielder Cesc Fabregas and striker Diego Costa to persistant health issues, the latest addition to the injury list might hit the La Rojas hard.

Manchester United lose their saviour too

However, it is Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal whose plans will be hit the hardest because of De Gea’s injury. His team have been wrecked by injuries to defensive players, and to lose the first-choice goalkeeper is an eventuality the Dutchman would not have even wanted to think about.

De Gea has appeared in all of United’s 12 matches this season, kept 3 clean sheets, made 24 saves, and has been the saviour of his team on many occasions.

Manchester United travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in their next Premier League game on 22 November. 30 year old Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is expected to feature between the posts for the match against Arsenal, and for the immediately foreseaable future.
