Manchester United has not had a proper goal scoring winger for many years now.
Mourinho, to solve the problem, tried out Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Rashford, Martial, Lingard and even Young, but none of them stuck.
The only candidate who came remotely close to succeeding was Lingard, but it was almost as if the position was limiting his influence on the play. Juan Mata has exceptional passing skills and technical awareness. But he lacks the pace to be a winger.
Martial and Rashford have time and again reiterated that they prefer the position of a left winger or centre forward.
Alexis Sanchez has been a disappointment. At Arsenal, moving to the right wing helped him to achieve success. Nothing has worked so far for him at Manchester United. He seems like a player without any fight left in him.
There have been many candidates for this position including the likes of Ivan Perisic, Nicolas Pepe, Antoine Greizmann, and Gareth Bale. The onus will be on the United board to find a suitable candidate for the position and Solskjaer will be keen on solving this issue in the upcoming transfer season.
