Gattuso also termed Premier League as the best league in the World

Former AC Milan midfielder and World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso has said that he wouldn’t mind walking to the Old Trafford and join Manchester United as a manager if the club comes calling. Gattuso is currently the manager of Italian tier-three club Pisa.

The Italian midfielder expressed his views in an interview given to The Sun. He was quizzed whether he would like to replace Louis van Gaal at the helm of United, in reply to the question, Gattuso said, “I'd walk there. I'd even go tomorrow.”

The 38-year-old then talked about Sir Alex Ferguson and how big a fan he is of English football. The two-time Champions League winner also elaborated on the difference between football played in Italy and England saying that the Italians are much more tactical in their approach while English football depends more on pace and strength.

“Sir Alex Ferguson has always respected me - and I have always admired the Premier League which, for me, is the best league in the world. In Italy, we are tactical masters, but in England you see pacey players - with great strength in their legs,” he said.

Gattuso also revealed that he is a big fan of Championship football and records a couple of Championship matches every night. He said: “I love watching the Championship, because in those games, I see true love that people in England have for football. They breathe football. I record two Championship matches a night.

“In Italy, some teams can relax during games. In England, with every action of a team, there is a corresponding action from the opposition.”

Gattuso’s managerial history:

Gattuso, who announced his retirement from the sport after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, started his managerial career with Swiss Super League club FC Sion. However, things did not turn out to be as good as he would have hoped, the club’s board sacked him within three months of appointment. Next up for Gattuso was the then-Serie B club Palermo.

However, Gattuso faced the sack again after he failed to help his team to a reasonable start to the Serie B season. The former AC Milan player then moved to Greece and joined OFI Crete as a manager. He resigned from his post after few months, citing club’s financial problems as the reason.

Although, he was later persuaded by the fans and the board to stay at the club. Though, his association with the club did not last long as he resigned yet again, two months after his first resignation.

In August 2015, Gattuso was named the manager of Italian tier-three club Pisa and still hold his post.

Given the Italian’s managerial history, the chances are negligible that he would be appointed as the manager of 20-times English Champions. However, Gattuso must be credited for his honest answer.
